Frequently asked questions

Everything we're most often asked before a first portfolio review. Can't find it here — just get in touch.

General

What does Stonesmort actually do?
We manage investment portfolios and build retirement, tax, and wealth plans for individuals, families, and institutions — then stay involved to rebalance and adjust the plan as markets and your life change.
Is there a minimum amount to invest?
Most portfolio management relationships start at $100,000 in investable assets. Financial planning on its own, without ongoing portfolio management, has no minimum.
Where are you located?
Our head office is in New York, with a second office in Melbourne. Most relationships are run remotely, with video reviews each quarter.

Working Together

How does the process work?
It starts with a free portfolio review to understand your goals and current holdings, followed by a written plan covering target allocation, fees, and risk, and then ongoing management with a review every quarter.
Are you a fiduciary?
Yes. Every recommendation we make is held to your best interest, not ours — that's a standing commitment, not a marketing line.
Can I see my portfolio whenever I want?
Yes — clients get access to a dashboard showing holdings, performance, and fees, updated daily, in addition to the quarterly written review from your advisor.

Fees

How are fees structured?
Portfolio management is billed as a simple annual percentage of assets under advisement, charged quarterly. Standalone financial planning is a flat project fee. We never earn commissions on products we recommend.
Is the first portfolio review really free?
Yes, with no obligation to continue afterward. It's a 30-minute call to review your current holdings and give you an honest read on whether we can help.

Risk & Reporting

How do you manage investment risk?
Portfolios are diversified across asset classes and rebalanced on a set schedule, with allocation matched to your timeline and stated risk tolerance — not to what the market did last quarter.
How do I get in touch with my advisor?
Every client gets a direct phone number and email for their advisor — not a shared support inbox — for the full length of the relationship.
